Getting To Know Jessica Dawn
Let's break the barrier that currently holds us apart and let's get a little more personal. Let me tell you more about the girl behind the art.
I'm Jessica and I was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. I have been in love with photography and the arts since I was very young. I do come from a photographer background, focusing mainly on fashion portraits. However, recently as of 2015, I have branched out into other forms of art.
Self taught and determined to show the world what I see from my eyes, I chose to take a more serious approach to photography in 2010. I spent hours of prep time on shoots keeping things very detailed so all team members of the shoot could see the vision. I love creating more of a story through my images and work.
I had to take a few years off from photography on account of my mental health, I happen to suffer from depression and anxiety. In 2014, I decided to do some self portraits and be open about my depression (you can see my blog post about it here). I thought I was going to be scared to share my story but I was more focused on helping others like me. The amount of messages and positive responses I got from my post drove me into wanting more from my art.
With this new outlook, I decided to make my art something that drives me to help others. I wanted to prove that people who suffer from mental health issues are not a burden, as we often see ourselves as. We are strong and worth fighting against our dark times. I tried to figure out what I was afraid of the most and try to prove to myself I could do it. With a little help from my parents, I found my first passion I have always been scared of doing to jump into. For my 23rd birthday my parents bought me some voice lessons.
Having that one goal in the works, I wanted to move on to something else. I have never believed that someone should set limitations for themselves. I decided to try doing more work in front of the lens and model. Coming from all my experience though, I wanted to try to get published. I put together a whole shoot, location, wardrobe, theme..everything. Contacted a talented photographer and pitched her my idea. The whole shoot came together, we submitted the images, and we happened to get published (April 2015). Never thought it would happen on my first shoot as a model but I was and am still very happy how things turned out.
From photography to modelling and singing, I am now even stepping out into the acting world. I can't wait to put my art out there in every way that makes me happy. I love what I do and its very fulfilling. I can't wait to share everything that I will accomplish.
